1. The fact that I’m being paid to write. More than 20 years ago I dated a young man who was a pilot. While we were dating he was flying single engine planes and he worked for his dad’s company, which owned a few planes and I remember the look that would come over his face when he would talk about how much he loved to work, being surrounded by everything “aviation.” A few years later I was working at the ticket counter, for USAirways, in Boston and I was waiting on a customer when I could tell that someone was staring at me. As my customer walked away I saw “Clyde” standing in front of me, just past the rope that kept everyone in line and he was every inch of his 6′ 2″, wearing a pilots uniform and smiling that beautiful smile of his. He had a way of looking at people and no matter what they were going through, they’d always end up returning his beautiful smile. I could tell he was in a rush, so I jumped over the place where people who were checking in would place their bags and gave him a big hug. He hugged me and whispered, “JillieBuck, you won’t believe it, but they PAY ME TO FLY!!!” Today, for the first time, I understand what he meant, because I have the same feeling, as a writer! (Thanks for the fun times, Clyde.)
2. My children are healthy and are comfortable enough with Dave and I to tell us things that most teens would keep quiet; like my son getting his first kiss the other night. What other 15 year old young man would come in from trick-or-treating and say, “Well, Mom, I think I just had my first date. And I kissed her.”
3. Hurricane Noel with it’s fierce winds and rain, giving us all an excuse to stay inside and watch movies and be together.
4. Dave’s Mom is up and moving around just 3 days after surgery, at 82! She’s a firecracker, that one!
5. I have a church and a church family that I simply adore! I am just really looking forward to going to church tomorrow and we are having an all-church brunch!
Until tomorrow…
